President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the Central Asian Institute for Ecological Research

The Institute was founded 10 years ago by Aselle Tasmagambetova, President of the Saby Foundation, and specializes in environmental monitoring and environmental research.

Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev especially noted the work of the Institute's team aimed at preserving the population of the Caspian seal, and made an important decision for the ecology of Kazakhstan to take the issue of protecting the endemic under his personal control.

In 2019, the Institute, together with the Saby Foundation, opened the only Center for the Study and Rehabilitation of the Caspian Seal in the Northern Caspian in Aktau.

The Institute and the Saby Foundation began studying the problem of endemic population decline back in 2017. Under the leadership of Aselle Tasmagambetova, 5 international expeditions were organized, the data of which became the reason for including the endemic in 2020 in the Red Book of Kazakhstan.

During the work of the Center, protocols for the treatment of the Caspian seal were developed for the first time in Kazakhstan, and more than 40 seals have already been rescued.

The President highly appreciated the work of the Center and noted the need to study the reasons for the decline in the population of the Caspian seal and conduct fundamental research in this direction.

The team of the Saby Foundation and the Institute would like to thank Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich for his high attention to the activities of the scientists of the Central Asian Institute for Ecological Research, and especially for the decision to take the issue of protecting the Caspian seal under the personal control of the President.
