Training workshop sessions for Kazakhstani surgeons

Within the scope of its project “Emergency Pediatric Surgery”, the Saby Foundation organized and financed a series of training workshop sessions from a recognized Russian children’s surgeon, Yuriy Yuryevich Sokolov.

This was the second stage after we opened the emergency surgery department in Almaty Children’s City Clinical Hospital No. 2 and a similar department in Semey. For four days, the surgeon was sharing his professional experience and best practices on the use of endoscopic equipment and performance of minimally invasive operations with Kazakh colleagues on the basis of these surgical departments.

Professor Sokolov delivered 5 lectures for the medical staff of hospitals on the following subjects: “Digestive tract redoubling in children”, “Laparoscopic surgery for removing lymphangiomas”, “Laparoscopic interventions with malformations of the biliary tract”, “Laparoscopic surgery on the pancreas in children”, “Rare types of intestinal obstruction in children".

Furthermore, the surgeon rendered consultations to 17 patients, and also performed 7 operations, of which 4 were endoscopic (laparoscopic bowel resection for intestinal invagination, cholecystectomy, echinococcectomy) and 3 upfront surgeries for intestinal tract development defects.

We plan to perform such workshop sessions on a regular basis. So that not only the equipment level of the departments of pediatric emergency surgery in Kazakhstan equals the highest world standards, but the training of our doctors would be fully consistent with them.
