The UN Sustainable Development Goals are the basis of Saby's activities

Even before the official implementation of the SDGs in 2015, the foundation's activities were based on the principles of mercy, creation, development of education, medicine, assistance to the disadvantaged, rational use of resources and solving environmental problems.

Aselle Tasmagambetova, President of the Saby Foundation, has been systematically supporting and implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for many years.

CAIER (Central Asian Institute for Environmental Research), founded by Aselle Tasmagambetova, hosted an event attended by leading representatives of the business community of Kazakhstan, UN partners and members of the Global Compact, representatives of government agencies, representatives of the UN Country Team in Kazakhstan.

The experts studied options for sustainable business practices in Kazakhstan, discussed forms of business cooperation with the UN, including by joining the Global Compact.

“During the 20 years of operation of the Saby Foundation and the 10 years of CAIER activity, we have consistently implemented projects that are consistent with the principles of the SDGs.

The children’s emergency surgeries built by the Foundation in the regions of Kazakhstan comply with SDG No. 3, the competition to support young entrepreneurs “Build your own business” is held under the auspices of SDG No. 8, the project of the Saby Foundation for people with limited mobility “Invataxi” and the construction of the Youth House “Meyrim” in Aktobe have been implemented in line with SDG No. 10. Educational projects (Alem, Robotics Centers in the regions, school construction) reflect the principles of SDG No. 4. Throughout the work of the Saby Foundation, many projects have been organized that are in line with SDGs No. 1, 2, No. 7, etc.

I would like to note that practice shows that compliance with the SDGs, not only in charity, but also in business, is currently becoming beneficial for entrepreneurs. So, for example, for many mining and oil refining companies, the problem of waste processing is acute, which implies the need to develop an R&D laboratory.

CAIER, having its own R&D laboratory, has developed a technology for obtaining building materials from oil-contaminated soils. The use of this technology is in line with SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), in which Kazakhstan this year shows an increase in indicators,” said Aselle Tasmagambetova, President of the Saby Foundation, about the projects.

Aselle Tasmagambetova also said that one of the key projects of CAIER, which has been carried out for many years together with leading international scientists, is the project to preserve the Caspian seal, a unique animal that is a marker of the entire Caspian marine ecosystem. The protection of the Caspian seal is in line with SDG No. 14 "Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development."

In addition, the Institute was one of the first in Kazakhstan to begin construction of buildings that meet the international environmental standard (LEED). The Institute itself is actively using alternative energy sources, and a large-scale project "Rainwater" has also been launched.

Following a systemic development strategy in line with international standards, CAIER became a member of the UN Global Compact in December 2022.
